Many thnaks to those who have responded so far.

To answer one question - yes I did start with a manual SmartStart install, selecting Linux as the OS. During the install the drives were configured as a RAID5 array - no hot spare. The server also has an installed, but unused h/pluggable DAT drive ( We have 10 DL380G2, with 3 h/p DAT drives to share amongst them)

We chose to use Mandrake because of their 2.2 kernel support for Reiser FS when we started a project 18months ago. Since then we tried RH 7.0 and weren't too impressed. We had one server install fine on the Friday. When we came back in on the Monday the partition info was fried. We re-installed - it kept dropping off the network. Had an Intel m/board with 82259 network chipset. RH7 selected eepro100 kernel module. Had to manually install e100 driver which fixed the prob. Then tried to re-conf some partitions to use Reiser - fritzed again.

Installed MDK 8, everything worked 1st time. This prob with the DL380G2 is the 1st real prob we've had.

Anyways, enough of my rambling. I'm on holiday for the next week so I can forget about it for a while.

Once again, many thanks to those who responded and offered assistance.

Rgds

Andrew
