On a slightly different matter, if you install RedHat 7.1 and plan on using the latest RedHat kernel (2.4.9-31) the Compaq Health & Wellness driver (cpqhealth) specifically released for RedHat 7.1 won't work and your won't be able to monitor the status of the machine. If however you install RedHat 7.2 and use the cpqhealth package released for RedHat 7.2, it will work with the latest kernel. Also, if force the RedHat 7.2 cpqhealth onto a RedHat 7.1 machine, it will work. Compaq doesn't support any version of the kernel other than the one on the base CD installation and it is just by luck that it still works on RedHat with kernel 2.4.9-31. It seems that Compaq expects customers to running kernels with known security vulnerabilities and bugs. If you upgrade your kernel to address a security problem, you can't rely on Compaq having drivers that work. I hope that managers take this into account when choosing a vendor for their future Linux servers. > > I'm actually sat infront of a DL380G2 that has just had Redhat 7.1 installed > without problem.
