It appears that the JeePeePee site is currently down, the only alternative I
have is to go to an existing machine running linux and build a kernel there,
then copy that to the RedHat installation boot disk. If you use RH6.2, I
noticed that the sim710 is in the real kernel now so you won't have to patch
it with the sim710 patch (unless there are some really cool enhancements in
the newer one). Just make sure to change at least the 2 choices of sim710
under low level scsi drivers to "Y" and cpqarray under block devices to "Y".
Since the Prosignia VS doesn't have any PCI slots, you can safely disable
PCI support. You can also disable video for Linux, joystick support, Token
Ring support, and any other stuff you won't need for the install. Once you
bring your Prosignia VS system up on the kernel after the install, you can
create a new kernel on that same system to have all the support you need.

Sincerely,
Richard Black

The patched kernel referenced on your site is shown as not available. Do you
know of another source? I searched the site to no avail. Thanks for the
help!

Prosignia VS, NCR53c710, Original Smart controller.
I have sucessfully accessed devices on the NCR53c710, the Original Smart
controller, an add in NE2000 card, all added in memory.
Build the boot disk, put a kernel (with the sim710 driver built in
statically) on the boot disk, boot, pass the parameters at the boot prompt
(sim710=addr:0x8000,irq:15). Then you should be able to do a normal
install. Check my web site under sim710 at

Richard Black

I am trying to install Linux on a Prosignia VS with an NCR53c710 chip. I
have downloaded the driver, but wonder whether anyone has done a similar
install, since I am not sure how to configure the machine prior to install,
and we have had no luck to date in getting any version of Linux to recognize
the drives. Thanks in advance for any insight.
